What is CARE?
Perhaps we all know that it helps to talk about the things that are bothering us. But it's difficult to make the first step and talk to a friend or a counselor about what's on our minds. Project CARE is here to make that step easier. Through the CARE program, any student may talk to a trained peer listener (CARE leader) any time of the day for any reason. Sometimes it's just easier to talk to someone your own age.
Who CAREs?
10th, 11th, and 12th grade students go through an application, interview, and training process to become CARE leaders. Without exception, they have listed among their interests in becoming CARE leaders the privilege of listening to their peers and helping. CARE leaders adhere to a strict code of confidentiality to ensure that what you say to them does not become gossip.
How do I find a CARE leader?
Anyone may stop in the school office or the ECO/Guidance Office to request to talk with a CARE leader. You will be given a binder with a list of names of CARE leaders to choose from. CARE leaders also have a profile in this binder so you can see if there is someone whose experiences might fit you well. The CARE leader will be called out of class to talk with you in a quiet place. You can talk for as long as you wish. You may ask to see the same CARE leader again.
Why do you CARE?
As Christians we are called to carry one another's burdens. To do that we need to listen to one another. CARE leaders hope to emulate Christ in listening to the cares of their peers and in doing so, to ease their burdens.
What do you CARE about?
Anything. Having problems with friends? Family? Worrying about the future? Wanting to talk about your parents' divorce or separation? Grieving the loss of a family member or friend? Feeling anxiety about your schoolwork? Come and talk. We really do CARE. Questions?
