Community Service

Because our students are called to a life of service, regardless of what their vocation may be, a number of opportunities for service are provided for them. These students are not volunteering to earn personal praise, but instead are following Jesus' teachings in Matthew 25. Some of the opportunities for service are listed below.

SVO - Student Volunteer Organization

  • SVO members and volunteers do things like paint, clean-up construction sites, sort clothes, landscape, tutor, and much more.

C.A.R.E. - Christ's Arms Reaching Everyone

  • Through the CARE program, any student may talk to a trained peer listener (CARE leader) any time of the day for any reason.

Community Service Day

  • Our staff and students were transported to more than 50 sites throughout the area to community service on September 13. They worked for various ministry organizations, public schools, Christian elementary and middle schools, and many other places. The 2 ½ hour window spent at most of the servic sites was short, but together we were able to do approximately 2,000 hours of work, which blessed both the givers and the receivers.

Blood Drives

  • Wednesday, November 23; Friday, February 1; and Friday, April 25, are the dates for our Blood Drives this year. The students (17 and older and weigh no less than 100 pounds), staff and community will have opportunity to provide the local blood bank with much-needed blood. The November drive is especially important because it occurs the day before the Thanksgiving weekend, a time when blood supplies usually run short. Please come out and help SCHS be a beacon of hope in the community by donating blood. Thanks for your Gift of Life!

World Vision Child

  • SC students are sponsoring 8 children through World Vision. A different child from around the world is featured each month. This is a $2,500 commitment per year for the student body. Offerings are taken once per month and containers are located at the book store and candy store for donations.

    Food Drives

Venison for local food kitchens

  • Deer hunters can donate venison to local food kitchens by taking it to Stegink's Deer Processing (100th Street west of 131 x-way). The SCHS Student Council pays for the processing and Stegink's packages it to the specifications of local food kitchens.

MANS Faith in Action Food Drive

  • 130 bags of groceries were collected from our students and staff for the MANS Faith in Action Food Drive. A total of about 1800 bags was collected from Christian, Catholic and Lutheran schools from Kent County who participated in this MANS (Michigan Asso. Of Non-Public Schools) endeavor to help our local food pantries.

Twelve Days of Christmas

  • The Student Council is collecting food and cash from the student body to provide 80 area families with a Christmas food basket complete with a Bible and gifts for the children of the family.
