South
Christian
High School
What is it?
The Student Volunteer Organization (SVO) is an organized way for South Christian students to volunteer after school and assist others through respected organizations.
Who Can Join?
All South Christian students who are interested in helping others are invited to take part in the Student Volunteer Organization.TEAM MEMBERS - help out one day per week for most of the year at one of the locations listed below. Students that don't have any or have very few after school commitments are a great fit for this.
LEADERS – Junior or senior team members who take a leadership role and can drive teams to their volunteer site when necessary.
VOLUNTEERS - Volunteers are students who have too many after school commitments to be team memberes but want to participate when they can throughout the year. Volunteers sign-up on the SVO board when they are available to help.
MONDAYS - Tutoring at Southwood Elementary
Students volunteering here will tutor for a substantial portion of the school year with an elementary school
student in a manner that is similar to Kids’ Hope USA. Because of this those that tutor here should not be
involved in more than two sports seasons or both the play and musical. Our students are paired with another
SCHS student to allow them to participate in other activities on Mondays. Tutoring takes place at Southwood
Elementary on Mondays from 2:50-3:45
TUESDAYS - Helping at Inner City Christian Federation (ICCF)
Anyone can help out the Inner City Christian Federation (ICCF) after school on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:45. This
is usually hands on work that does not require any special skills. Tasks can include cleaning up a construction
site, painting, planting trees, weeding, sorting clothes, handing out flyers, making cookies, and more. It’s a
good idea for students to bring an old set of clothes and wear tennis shoes because we never know what we might
be doing.
WEDNESDAYS - Helping at Kids' Food Basket
On Wednesdays we serve at Kids’ Food Basket. We usually spend most of our time packing sack suppers but have
also made sandwiches, put cookies and other snacks in bags, unloaded a pick-up truck, and decorated lunch bags.
Everyone associated with the SVO is welcome to help this organization that provides a great service for inner
city children who may not get enough nutrition at home. We school at 3:00 at usually return by 4:45.
How to get Involved?
Sign-up information can be found in Mr. Springvloed's room (Room 24) or by talking with Mr. Springvloed. A consent form needs to be signed by all students and those who tutor at Southwood will be required to fill in additional forms.
