Annual Fund

The School Board of South Christian initiated an Annual Fund Drive for the fall of 2005. This was in response to the Strategic Planning Initiative that recommended a new funding model for the school. For the complete Strategic Plan visit http://www.schs.org/staff/board/stratplan.pdf .

Q: What is an Annual Fund?

A: An annual fund is a yearly drive to raise money to help run an organization. Many colleges, both public and private, several area Christian high schools, and even some of South’s feeder schools have annual fund drives to help provide money for the annual budget. It is one way to raise funds without having to raise tuition by an unaffordable amount.

Q: Why does South need an Annual Fund?

A: An annual fund would help spread the financial burden over more than just the families that pay tuition in a time when certain expenses are difficult to budget for, when new technologies are necessary, and when enrollment figures vary. An annual fund was recommended in the Strategic Plan for 2005-2010 as the chief way to ensure that the tuition cost increases to parents do not exceed the annual Consumer Price Index.

Q: Who would be invited to give to the Annual Fund for South Christian High School?

A: Parents, grandparents, alumni, friends, businesses, and anyone else who is committed to offering a Christ-centered education with the Reformed perspective in the southern greater Grand Rapids area.

In our first Annual Fund Drive we received over $100,000 and we say thanks to all of you who were a part of that. Each year the goal of the drive will be to keep the tuition increases from exceeding the rate of inflation. Your support of South Christian High School through the Annual Fund made a difference for the 06/07 school year. The tuition increase for this year was 3.84% (C.P.I.) which brought this year’s total tuition to $5,950. Without your giving to the Annual Fund Drive, each student’s tuition would have been raised another $135.

With the cost of health insurance, utilities and fuel continually on the rise and the number of our students fluctuating from year to year, gifts to the Annual Fund will continue to make a tremendous difference in keeping tuition costs down and making a Christian education affordable for families.
