Drama is a program at South Christian High School that allows students from all grade levels and levels of ability to get involved. Each year, SCHS Drama provides three main opportunities for students to participate.
- The Fall Play- Every Fall, South Christian presents a full length play. Auditions usually begin in September, and performances occur in late November or early December. Some productions from the past have included:
- Anne of Avonlea
- Alice in Wonderland
- A Midsummer Night's Dream
- Les Miserables
- The Christmas Carol
- Anne of Green Gables
- Charlotte's Web
- Teahouse of the August Moon
- And many more
- The Spring Musical- Every Spring, South Christian presents a full length,
fully scored musical. Auditions usually occur at the beginning of January, before
exams, and rehearsals start soon after exams. Performances often occur in late
March. Some productions from the past include:
- The Music Man
- South Pacific
- Beauty and the Beast
- The Sound of Music
- The Wizard of Oz
- Oklahoma
- The King and I
- Fiddler on the Roof
(March 2008)
- Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat
- Playbills - In April and in early May, students have the opportunity to direct
a productions. Auditions begin after the musical, and performances occur
in early May. Plays are often short plays, and multiple productions are performed
in one evening. It is a joy to see the students effectively put together productions.
- SCHS Drama - also runs a drama camp in June. Click here for the sign up form.
Philosophically, SCHS Drama seeks to get as many students involved in productions as possible. Often that means selecting productions that have larger casts. Being a part of the cast, however, is not the only way students can get involved. Other opportunities include:
- Set Building and Painting
- Stage Crew
- Makeup and Hair
- Sound and Lights
- Costumes
- Assistant Directing
- Many other positions
We encourage you to get involved and to enjoy each show, showing support to those involved. Thanks.
