How to Make A Brochure in Word

Planning Your Brochure:

   1.  Gather your text information.

   2.  Find images to go along with your text.  (See Finding Images below.)

   3.  On a piece of paper, sketch out your brochure.  This not have to be detailed.  Figure out which topics you want in each column.

 

Getting Your Page Set-up:

   1.  Open Word.

   2.  Go to Format and choose Columns.

   3.  Choose number of columns and press OK.

   4.  Go to File and choose Page Setup.

   5.  Choose Landscape.

   6.  Under Margins choose .5 (or whatever margin you want).

   7.  Click OK.

 

Formatting Your Brochure:

   1.  Start typing your information in the first column you have selected.

   2.  After entering the text, insert pictures if appropriate.  (See Finding Image below.)

   3.  Continue column by column.

   4.  Under File go to Print Preview to check the layout.

 

Enhancing Titles or Headings:

   After you have the basic brochure completed, go back and enhance it. 

   With all these effects, highlight your word or phrase first, then choose the effect.

   1.  Use the Bold, Italic, or underline buttons.

   2.  Use different fonts, text sizes or text colors.

   3.  Experiment with Word Art.

 

Hint:   To move between columns use Ctrl, Shift and Enter.

 

Adding Interest: 

   1.  Outline or shadow pictures.

   2.  Use lines or shapes to create designs.

   3.  Create text boxes and shade them.

   4.  Under Format, investigate the Borders and Shading features.

 

Inserting Pictures:

   1.  Inserting a picture in a text box allows you to resize your picture and easily move it around on the page.

  • Go under Insert on the Menu Bar and choose Text Box.
  • Click on your page.
  • Choose Insert on the Menu Bar and go down to Picture.
  • Get your picture From File and click OK to get it into your text box. 

   (You may then resize your picture and move it around.)

   2.  You can right click on most pictures on any Internet site and then click on Copy.  Then, place your cursor where you want your picture in your brochure, right click again, and click on Paste.  You can right click on the picture and use Format Picture to change size, etc.

 

   3.  To get text to wrap around your picture:

§         Right click on your picture

§         Go to Format Picture and choose Layout for different ways to wrap your text.
