Professional Biography

I’ve wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. My mom told me that already at 3 years old I was setting up for school for my dolls. I chose high school because I liked the higher level thinking ability and tremendous potential of high school students; plus, I just love teenagers. I graduated from Calvin College in 1991 with my B.A.; I received my M.A.T. from Calvin in 1998.

Personal Biography

I married Scott Wierenga in 1990; we have two children, Abigail and Jake. As a family we enjoy camping, reading, canoeing, and playing games. Little known facts: my worst job ever was salting deer hides during my parents deer processing business in the fall, which paid for our Christian school tuition; I minored in Latin and am certified to teach it; I collect nutcrackers, and I have over 100 of them; my favorite book of all times is To Kill a Mockingbird; my favorite movie of all times is The Sound of Music.

Faith

Next to salvation, one of God’s greatest gifts to humans was the desire and ability to communicate. I love marveling with students at the great gift this is, and I am humbled by the opportunity to walk with them in their journey of using this gift responsibly and as a praise offering back to their Creator. I hope my students leave my classroom remembering my love for God, my love for them, and my love of the English language.
