Professional Biography |
I have been teaching in the Social Studies Department at SCHS since 2000 when I graduated from Calvin College with a major in History and a minor in Political Science.
Personal Biography |
I was married in 2000 to my wife Jill who now stays home with our 3 daughters--Gabbie, Alexa and Maia. Gabbie is in preschool at Legacy Christian School. I
praise God for the gift of children, but if you have any advice on parenting
daughters, I am all ears.
I am involved in many ways at SCHS. I love sports and the outdoors and therefore am involved with coaching. I coached boys and girls JV soccer for 5 years and am now the girls varsity soccer coach. I also coach the mens reserve team at Calvin College in the fall and assist the varsity. My wife Jill and I have been Young Life leaders and Youth Group leaders at church. The opportunity to influence kids spiritually is one of the most rewarding and challenging jobs a person could be given. I thank God daily for the opportunities he has provided.
Faith |
Teachers and coaches alike have challenged me as I grew up to use my gifts positively rather than negatively. One high school teacher sticks out clearly in my mind as having made a difference in my life. Mr. Burgess was a history teacher of mine and because I loved him and his class, I loved history as well. This relationship with him inspires me to develop relationships with students and athletes who are entrusted to me by God. I believe it is imperative that young people discuss their futures with people that have already experienced life and use their advice to make big decisions. But even more important is the gift of prayer that we have been given to communicate with our Lord and Savior. The number one thing to remember about prayer is that communication is 2-way. We have to be still and listen as well.
