Professional Biography |
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. I also have
20 hours beyond Masters in Administration and Leadership.
Personal Biography |
I have been married to Jana for 35 years. We have three children: Melanie, married with twin 5 year old daughters, who works in development at Calvin College; Mike, in the Marine corp and, Mark, married, living in Salt Lake City, UT and working in the basketball program at the University of Utah. My hobbies include travel, backpacking, bowhunting, sports, doing landscape work, and of course, spending time with my granddaughters.
Two interesting facts:
1. In four years of playing football in high school, I was never in a game where we lost.
2. I once was certified in scuba diving, and while diving off the coast of Florida in the Keys I was
surrounded by a school of sharks. Getting back into the boat was nerve racking which might
explain my high energy and the fact that I can’t sit still.
Faith |
My faith and understanding of a Reformed, Christian perspective in Education is that young people nurtured in this environment will grow up with a sense of becoming a Christian in whatever calling God leads them to. My prayer is that they will realize that all of life is service to the Creator, his world and his people. This verse and two quotes guide me: Habakkuk 17:8 “He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes, its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men”—Frederick Douglas. “The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit”—Nelson Henderson.
