Professional Biography |
I remember in 8th grade saying that I wanted to be a "cool" English teacher, and when I graduated from Calvin College in 1984 with an English major in the secondary education program, I had accomplished all but the "cool." For the next ten years, I loved celebrating God's gift of language with students as I taught a variety of English classes, first at SCHS and then at the International School of Singapore. By the time I returned to SCH in 1998, I had earned an MA in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. Now, I teach Religion classes exclusively, and it's a privilege to challenge young people to learn and apply God's truth in all areas of their lives.
Personal Biography |
I love coaching the cross country teams at SCH and helping students to lead our worship services. My family (wife Mary and daughters Anna, Abby, Alea, and Audrey) lives in Dorr, and we love being members of Madison Square CRC. At home, I also love playing with my daughters, reading both fiction and non-fiction on a variety of topics, and pretending to be the athlete that I was twenty years ago.
Faith |
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, and my salvation is secure in Him. In addition, I love Paul's call to sanctification: "to continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling" (Philippians 2:12b). As I strive by the Holy Spirit to live intimately with my Creator, I love the questions, challenges, and energy of South Christian High School students. It is my privilege, in turn, to encourage them on their journeys with Jesus.
