I have lived in Grand Rapids my whole life and attended Christian education through college. After attending Calvin College and graduating in 2004, I taught 1st-3rd grade at Eastside Christian School for five years. In 2010, I graduated from Western Michigan with a Master’s in Counseling Education after an internship at Forest Hills Central Woodlands and South Christian High School. For 11 years, I was blessed to work at Grand Rapids Christian High School as a counselor. I am married to Isaac and have four children (Corinne, Ezra, Everett, and Leland) My three older attend Trinitas Classical School. I enjoy spending time at our family cottage, golfing, cooking, and reading.
At South Christian High School, our mission statement embodies my dedication to live as a humble servant of Christ. Because Jesus saved me, I joyfully serve Him, sharing His works and seeking His comfort and salvation. My role as a counselor allows me to embody this mission through compassion and empathy, guiding students in their personal and spiritual growth. I engage with students authentically, emphasizing that God’s words are meant for everyone. My approach is not of an expert, but as a listener, striving to connect with all students. The Reformed perspective shapes how I support and care for students in every aspect of their lives. Hebrews 6:13-20, especially verse 19, reinforces this with the assurance of God’s promises, describing them as “as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf.”
