I have lived in Grand Rapids my whole life and attended Christian education through college. After attending Calvin College and graduating in 2004, I taught 1st-3rd grade at Eastside Christian School for five years. In 2010, I graduated from Western Michigan with a Master’s in Counseling Education after an internship at Forest Hills Central Woodlands and South Christian High School. For 11 years, I was blessed to work at Grand Rapids Christian High School as a counselor. I am married to Isaac and have four children (Corinne, Ezra, Everett, and Leland) My two oldest attend Trinitas Classical School. I enjoy spending time at our family cottage, golfing, cooking, and reading.
The mission statement at South Christian High School sums up how I strive to live as a humble servant to Christ. Because Jesus saved me, I can live joyfully for Him, sharing what He has done and looking to Him for my comfort, my help, and for my salvation. I have had the privilege of living out this mission statement in my work as an educator. Through compassion and empathy, I help students in their relationships, discipleship, and walk with Christ. I am authentic when meeting with students, and my hope is to remind students that God’s words are for all of us. I yearn to reach all students not as an expert but as a listener. The Reformed perspective provides a framework through which I support and love students in all areas of their life. Hebrews 6:13-20 tells of our assurance of God’s promises to us, and in verse 19 it reads “We have this (a strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope, set before us) as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf.”
