Sailor Impact Fund

Leave a legacy.
Make an impact.

What is a sailor impact fund?

A Sailor Impact Fund is an endowed, restricted fund that provides ongoing annual support for a specific program or purpose at South Christian High School. Your gift is invested, and a portion is distributed each year—creating a lasting, meaningful impact for students and the school.

Funds may support academic programs and departments, extracurricular activities, facilities and maintenance needs, tuition assistance for current students, and other uses approved by the Foundation Board.

Establishing a Fund

  • $10,000 minimum to establish a fund
  • May be funded over a period of up to five years
  • Distributions begin once the $10,000 minimum is reached
  • Additional gifts towards the fund may be made at any time by anyone

Designating Your Impact

  • Fund name and purpose are established in partnership with the donor and the Foundation Board
  • Once established, fund designations cannot be changed unless the supported program no longer exists
  • Donors are encouraged to define broad, inclusive purposes to ensure long-term flexibility
  • For Example:
    • Too Narrow: “For one annual chapel speaker.”
    • More Flexible: “To support spiritual formation and chapel programming.”

Investment & Distribution

  • Funds are invested alongside other Foundation assets under the supervision of the Foundation Board
  • Each year, 5% of the three-year rolling average market value is distributed to the designated purpose
  • All decisions regarding fund use are final and rest with the Foundation Board.

EXISTING SAILOR IMPACT FUNDS

  • The Inaugural Sailor Impact Fund was established through an anonymous estate gift for Tuition Assistance. Additional gifts have been made in memory of Mary and John Haaksma, whose legacy continues to support generations of students through Christian education.
  • The Al VanPopering Construction Trades Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to students going into the Trades.
  • The Sailor Golf Program Impact Fund provides financial support for the Men’s and Women’s golf teams.
  • The Pylman Family Gift Trust was established by Edward & Lori Pylman and provides support for the Fine Arts.
