Anna Alkema

Biography

I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math Education. This past year has been full of exciting changes—I moved from Ohio to Michigan, got married to my wonderful husband, Jack, and had the opportunity to teach at both South Christian in the fall and Calvin Christian in the spring. I am so excited to now have a classroom of my own and fully embrace this fantastic community at South Christian. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, music, and theater, as well as hiking, traveling, and spending time outdoors. My husband is the youth pastor at Center Church, and I love being involved in the youth group alongside him. I feel incredibly grateful to be teaching in a place where faith and education come together, and I look forward to building relationships with students and staff in the year ahead.

Faith Statement

I was incredibly blessed to grow up in a Christian home where my parents not only taught me about Jesus but modeled what it means to live a Christ-like life. Their guidance helped lay the foundation of my faith, and I’m so thankful for the role they played in shaping who I am today. From a young age, I knew I wanted to become a teacher—not just to educate students academically, but to share God’s love with them in meaningful and lasting ways. Throughout my entire educational journey, I attended Christian schools, and those experiences had a deep impact on my faith and my understanding of how God is present in every subject—even math! I love that math reflects the order, consistency, and creativity of our Creator. Whether we’re exploring patterns, solving problems, or seeing how numbers work together, it’s a reminder of how intentional and structured God’s design truly is. I am so thankful that God has led me to South Christian, and I fully believe He has placed me here with purpose. I pray daily for wisdom, patience, and compassion as I seek to be not only a strong teacher, but also a Christ-like example to my students. It’s a privilege to walk alongside them in both their academic and spiritual growth, and I’m excited to see how God continues to work in and through this community.
