Music has been an integral part of my life as long as I can remember. I’ve been fortunate to have had wonderful directors at my church, Byron Center Christian, South Christian, and Grand Valley State University. I received my Bachelors of Music Education from GVSU in 2001. I taught in Wyoming Public Schools, Kelloggsville Christian, and Dutton Christian. After having my 4th child (we added #5 in 2017), I stepped away from the classroom, and went back to school. In 2013 I graduated again from GVSU with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. I started my nursing career at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, and I currently work one night a week as a labor and delivery nurse. I have been a substitute teacher in our South Suburban Schools, coached softball at SCHS (2006-2012), the Madrigals Director for the past eight years at SCHS, and church choir director at First Cutlerville CRC for 26 years.

Faith Statement
As a music teacher, I have the distinct privilege to share my faith through song. Regardless of the genre, or if it is a Christian song or secular song, there are so many opportunities to find connections to God’s greatness. One of my favorite moments as a teacher is when a student finds their own connection to a song and then expresses how they see God in the words or music. I am very intentional with the music I choose for my students, but my students are the ones who bring “life” to the words and music. When they bring “life” to the music, they are then able to bless those around them, whether at a school performance or in the community. My prayer is that my students will continue to grow in their faith as they experience music in my classroom.
