I grew up right around West Michigan and graduated from South Christian in 2018. From there I went on to Calvin University where I graduated in 2022. As I started my freshman year of college, I was unaware of where the Lord wanted to take me in my career path, but I did know I loved sports and the community that comes along with them. In the summers, I was working at a Summer Camp that solidified that teaching was where the Lord wanted me and what I was passionate about. I have received my Bachelors in Physical Education and Health, and I am so excited that I get to share these passions with students at South Christian this upcoming year. South is where I grew in my faith through sports teams, Young Life, chapels and youth group. In my free time I love spending time with family and friends, being active, and playing sports!
Amy Korringa
I grew up in Costa Rica where my parents were missionaries with Christian Reformed World Missions (now Resonate). When I was eight years old, we moved back to the U.S. I graduated from East Martin Christian High School and received my Associate’s Degree from Grand Rapids Community College. Prior to working at SCHS I was an intervention para at Cross Creek Charter School. I love working at SCHS where I am able to include faith in education.
I have been married to my husband Steve for 11 years. We have a blended family with five kids. We are active members of Princeton CRC. Our family enjoys traveling – especially to national parks. My husband and I love to stay active with hiking, fishing and hockey. We’ve completed a couple of Triathlons and races together. I have also completed 3 marathons. In addition to running, I enjoy gardening, arts and crafts.
Esther Jun
I graduated from Calvin University with a major in English Secondary Education and a minor in ESL. I completed my student teaching experiences at East Grand Rapids Middle School and Rockford Freshman Center, where I enjoyed engaging with students and collaborating with fellow educators. Attending international schools before college allowed me to develop a deep appreciation of cultural diversity, so I love traveling around and learning about different cultures and traditions.
Tonya Brown
I was born and raised in Kentwood, MI and attended South Christian High School. From there I attended Grand Rapids Community College where I earned a degree in Interior Design. My husband Andrew also attended South Christian and we have three children. We spend our time walking our dog Baxter, hiking, camping and fishing. We also love spending time with our friends and attending football games on Friday nights.
We have been blessed to be raised in the South Christian Community and are excited to be raising our children in it as well. I am excited to be heading back to my alma mater and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Anna Alkema
I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math Education. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, music, and theater, as well as hiking, traveling, and spending time outdoors. My husband is the family pastor at Forest Grove RC, and I love being involved in the youth group alongside him. I feel incredibly grateful to be teaching in a place where faith and education come together, and I look forward to building relationships with students and staff in the year ahead.

I grew up in Cutlerville and went to Cutlerville Christian (now Legacy) then graduated from South Christian in 2004. After high school I went to cosmetology school. I worked in a salon for 10 years before staying home with my children. My husband Jeff and I have two children Travis and Libby. They attend Dutton Christian school. As a family we enjoy camping,going up north to the family cabin and being at Lake Michigan.
I am looking forward to being a part of the staff and community here at South.
Taylor Johnson
I graduated from Western Michigan in 2013 with an Organizational Communications and Business degree. Following that I graduated from North Carolina State with a Masters in Family and Youth Studies with a concentration in Administrative Leadership. For the last 12 years, I have been coaching basketball at some level. I have made coaching stops at Southeastern University, Western Michigan University, NC State, Grand Valley State and am entering my third season as the Boys Varsity Basketball Coach here at South Christian. My grandfather was a principal in Christian Schools for over 30 years before he passed away and Christian Education was always a part of my life as I grew up and graduated from Kalamazoo Christian. I recently married Brittany Heerema in 2023 and we live in Zeeland, Michigan with our dog Bentley.
Marissa McCauley
One of my favorite things to do as a child was exploring God’s creation, whether it was in the woods behind our house or in the dunes near Lake Michigan. I graduated from Wheaton College with a BS in Biology and Secondary Education. I am forever grateful for my Wheaton experience and how it challenged me to grow deeper in my faith, and also led me to my husband, Matt! After graduating, I had the opportunity to teach in a variety of educational settings. I began my career teaching in Illinois and Florida, where I taught primarily middle school science in the public schools. I then took a break to stay at home with our growing family, and had the privilege of homeschooling my own four children for four years. I am thrilled to be at SCHS teaching science where I can pour into the students and share my love for God’s creation with them.
