Solar Field Meets the Mission

In 2016 when the board decided to accept a gift to start the process of building our new campus, there were many dreams about all the possibilities. One dream at the time was that some portion of the operational cost of the new building would be offset by gifts to the foundation. In fact, the overall utility costs at the new building are less than those at the old campus, in spite of air conditioning and a 25% bigger building. However, the foundation grew only a little during the building campaign.

Words Matter

In a classroom where words matter, students have the opportunity to grow in their skills and expertise. What is most important is that they are able to practice and grow in using words that matter not only to themselves but to others as well. The students grow through their writing, their audiences, and their prayer.

A Persuasive Passion

While the students and staff are working remotely, we all can claim 2 Timothy 1:9: “We can only keep on going, after all, by the power of God, who first saved us and then called us to this holy work.”

Making Paths Straight

In Mrs. VanderTill’s Geometry class, students had an opportunity to not only learn about how to measure varying degrees in a polygon, but also create a visual representation of how God was always present through the difficult, challenging, and uncharted experiences. The students were able to be reminded to trust in God with all of their hearts, because, as they saw in their polygons, God made paths straight.

Snapshots

While this idea may not be captured in a single photo, how the photo is framed, the lighting, the candid nature of the subjects, and the authentic learning that is illustrated in the photo do. The snapshots of the mission of South Christian are found in each student in each class who is equipped to live with Christ at the center and equipped to serve God to their fullest potential.

Preparing for the Future

students to grow not only to be a Christian influence on culture but also to be Christ-centered caretakers for each member of their community. Through each course, both students and teachers know that there is an immeasurable value in what they do. “What we build, design, and depict on this side of eternity matters, because in some mysterious way, those creations will become part of the future city of God” (12).

Empowered by the Holy Spirit

Looking back, I have three competing feelings about the year. First, I am amazed that we finished an entire year in which any student who needed it could get instruction, mostly in person, each day. This encourages me to find people to thank for a great year. I am also tired because maximizing student opportunities to grow and learn has taken all the creative energies of everyone in this community, including me. This summer, I will be taking the sabbath as seriously as possible. Finally, my heart is full because the Lord has honored the work of this community and allowed us to craft a beautiful year of growth for our students. Because of this, I will tell of God’s faithfulness every chance I get. Thank you each for your role in making this year happen.

The Writing on the Wall
