I received my B.A. from Calvin College and my M.A.T. from Grand Valley State University. As a teacher, I spent my first nine years teaching English at Plymouth Christian High School, and I have been at South Christian since then. I also coached the mens’ tennis team at Cornerstone University for five years, but when I began teaching at South Christian, I made the transition to coaching the boys varsity tennis team here. I am married to Laura who serves as a chaplain at multiple businesses through Marketplace Chaplains, and we have three children. As a family we love to camp, bike, and play board games together. My personal hobbies include tennis, golf, hiking, and reading.

I am a teacher by profession, but a learner at heart. The learning opportunities that I have received have fostered a positive experience that I take with me to each class. In furthering my educational pursuits, I have received a BA from Calvin College with a focus on English education and a minor in Communications and Theater. I have since continued my education by receiving a M.Ed. in Reading from Western Michigan University. As a teacher, I have taught the eighth grade in inner city Lansing before coming to teach at South Christian. I have had the privilege of teaching at South Christian since 2003. My family consists of my wife, Emily, and my two children: Elijah and Moey. As a family, we attend La Grave CRC.  In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, reading, and DIY projects.

Teaching art to young people, to me, is a marvelous way to fill a day. Students enrich my life incredibly! How amazing is it that God placed me on this path in the late months of my sophomore year at Calvin College. There, an exceptional art professor instilled in us a love for creating with a spirit of grace and vigor. Because of the influence of this dynamic person, I graduated from Calvin College with a degree in Art Education in 1987. After teaching in Pennsylvania for three years, getting married, and moving back to Michigan, I was offered a position to teach at South Christian in 1991. In those early years, I earned my Master’s degree in Curriculum Studies, and since then I have taken various art classes including a handful at Ox-Bow, an extension of the Art Institute of Chicago. Every experience of learning has been an opportunity to grow in my knowledge of how to take the best care of my students. My dearest hope is to teach art in such a way that they can visualize how they have personally been endowed with God-given creativity. That creativity is a gift to cultivate, whether it is to make beautiful pieces of art or to solve problems in a complex world. May we bring glory to God in that endeavor!

I graduated from Calvin College in 2002 and since then have taken many course in my field at Western Michigan University. While growing up, my educational experience was very positive. I was blessed with wonderful teachers in my life and I always knew I wanted to serve by being in the field of education. As long as I would be working with students it didn’t matter what I would be doing, but my two favorite subjects were Phys Ed and Psychology, so it seemed obvious to major and minor in those two fields. My husband Tony and I have three children and we attend Caledonia CRC. I enjoy being with my family and friends, participating in triathlons, and doing crafts.

My children and I are all graduates of South Christian and I’ve lived in the Cutlerville area for the past 40 years. After many years in the financial services and group health insurance industry, it is a joy to apply recruiting, sales, and marketing skills to the development efforts for SCHS. I’m passionate about Christian education and it is a privilege to assist in shaping the future of SCHS in this role. My two grown children are married and both live in the Caledonia area. Nikki is married to Kevin Daley and they have three awesome children – one at GRCC, one at South Christian and one at Dutton Christian. James is married to Cathy and they have four beautiful children who attend Caledonia Public Schools. Family is very important – especially spending time with my grandchildren. Oh, the joy of seeing the world through the eyes of a child as we engage in new experiences. I also enjoy being out in God’s great creation. Gardening, power walking, and soaking up the sun while reading on a Michigan beach are a few favorites.

I am a proud graduate of Hope College where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education while majoring in Social Studies and minoring in Physical Education. While I thought I was going to be a high school teacher and coach until my retirement, the Lord had a different plan for me. I started my professional career at Hope as the Assistant Event Manager at the DeVos Fieldhouse as well as serving on Hope’s football staff as an assistant coach. Also during this time, I attended Western Michigan University as a graduate student where I received a Master’s Degree in Sports Management. Soon after graduation in 2011, I spent 18 months as the Athletic Director at Fowlerville High School then joined the South Christian community and served as the school’s Athletic Director from 2013-2020.  In the fall of 2020, I had the privilege of heading back into the classroom to join the Physical Education department. I also serve as a varsity assistant coach on the Sailor football staff. My wife, Kelly, and our children, Kenlee, Gracyn, Decker, and Parker are so thankful to be a part of the wonderful community here at South Christian.

I graduated from South Christian in 1987, then from Calvin College in 1991. I majored in History and minored in Speech.  Since then, I earned an English certification from the University of Michigan (at Flint) and a master’s degree in education from GVSU. Prior to coming to South Christian, I taught for three years of middle school in Lafayette, Indiana followed by three years of high school in Imlay City, Michigan.  At South, I currently teach  Intro LIt, Comp 10 and Comp 11.  I enjoy being involved in different activities and SCHS and being able to interact with students in a wide variety of contexts.  My wife, Chris, also works at South.  My three kids, Mike, Calvin, and Becky all graduated from South as well.  Outside of school, I enjoy playing my trombone in Shofar Brass and the Calvin University Community Orchestra.  I also spend time writing and arranging music for various situations.  Some other hobbies include biking, disc golf, and traveling with family.  I thank God for every day that I get to teach students as I live out his calling in my life.  It is a blessing to work with them each day at school and to see them grow in their faith.
